The grape varieties
Traditional varieties
The two white grape varieties Zierfandler (Spätrot) and Rotgipfler are typical for the thermal region and cannot be found elsewhere. The two grape varieties make up the legendary wine pairing "Spätrot-Rotgipfler" as a cuvée.
However, the traditional varieties also include Blaue Portugieser, formerly known as Vöslauer, or Neuburger, as well as modern wines from the Burgundy family, such as St. Laurent, Weißburgunder, Blauburgunder and Chardonnay. Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other grape varieties can also be found in the hilly vineyards of the thermal region.
